Description: The monograph planned in the research project is designed as a global history of experience, deliberately taking advantage of the opportunities offered by transnational comparisons, transfer and interconnectedness analyses. To this end, the peace conferences and treaties will be understood as intersections of political communication and thus also symbolic staging for very different actors: for politicians and the military as well as for international law experts, geographers, ethnologists, and economists. Last but not least, journalists constituted a particularly important group of actors, since the Paris peace negotiations represented the largest media event of the 20th century up to that time. The chosen period of investigation, from 1918 to 1923, is deliberately broader than the classic reconstruction of the spring of 1919 in Paris, in order to focus on the transition from the end of the war to the post-war phase and its spatial fanning out. At the same time, the focus of this synthesis is narrower than a history of the entire interwar period with its own problems of reasoning from the result.
